Heroes in a Half-shell!

Recently, my shop surpassed 1000 sales! Hooray! Thank you all so much who have liked my patterns enough to buy them. I am truly honored.

To celebrate, I’m releasing another free pattern! When we were kids, my younger brother and I were totally obsessed with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (though he was the only one who got the toys… not fair!). In homage to something I loved so much as a kid, I’ve put together a pattern based on a cute bead sprite I saw on Tumblr. I hope you enjoy it!

Off hiatus… how about a free pattern?

So, I was on hiatus for a while, battling illness and apathy and depression. I didn’t stitch for months! That’s how it goes with me…. cycles of manic stitching and then, nothing for weeks or months. But I’m feeling a bit better and have picked up needle and thread once again.

One of the first new patterns I created was a pattern based on the BBC’s series “Sherlock.” I am offering this “Johnlock” pattern to my followers, as I based it on a set of sprites from a LiveJournal user, whose page I cannot find now! I wasn’t feeling creative enough to make my own, so I went in search of something cute to help inspire me. Thus, this pattern was born. It is a slashy cross stitch, but if you wish to unslash it, just separate the two characters by a few squares and take out the heart. I made it slashy for a friend of mine who is obsessed with the “Johnlock” pairing. ^_^

I have also been working on new patterns for the shop. Hopefully, I’ll have the charts done in a few days and can post them here. Until next time!

First new patterns for 2013

And it only took me two months to finish these, ha ha. I finally got around to finishing the My Little Pony collection with Rarity and Twilight Sparkle. Both patterns had needed tweaking before I could stitch them, and I am so happy to finally have them done.

And finally, I was feeling rather grumpy and perturbed one day and came up with a new bookmark pattern to suit my mood: Grumpy Cat.

Hopefully the next new pattern won’t take as long to finish!

Free pattern: Weeping Angel

I have so many plans for new designs for 2013, but not enough fingers to stitch them all in a timely manner! Some things I’m working on include Thor and Loki, the final two My Little Ponies, Ninja Turtles bookmark and more Harry Potter quotes. However, this is our busy time at work (when is it not?!?), so stitching takes a back-burner to life a lot of the time.

Because I’m feeling so guilty about not being able to produce new patterns quickly, I came up with a quick freebie pattern of a weeping angel. Don’t blink! Feel free to download and change the colors. I bet it would look stunning in white thread on black fabric!

If you haven’t already been to my Facebook page, head on over to Crafty Companion for sneak peeks, discounts and be the first to know when free patterns come out!

Happy stitching!

‘As seen in…’

In my last post, Customers’ projects and sneak peeks, I posted a very lovely stitching by Helen R. of my Lumos pattern. Yesterday I got an email from Helen saying her stitching had been published in an issue of Cross Stitcher Magazine, a publication in the UK! Fortunately, I could buy individual issues of the magazine on my iPad so I could see her work in the publication myself.

And then I took a picture…

Thank you, Helen, for letting me know about this. I’m so happy people are getting such enjoyment out of my patterns!

Customers’ projects and sneak peeks!

I’ve gotten quite excited in the past couple of months that some of my customers have shared their completed stitchings of my patterns. I LOVE seeing my patterns come to life, especially when the crafters add their own touches to the piece.

Rachel H. shared her completed Tardis bookmark on my Facebook page, based on my “Books and Tardises” design. I love the addition of the ribbon!

Helen R. emailed me a photo of her beautiful “Lumos” stitching. The silver thread and brown wand absolutely make the piece and I adore the blue fabric she used. I’m going to have to find some of that for myself.

And now for a sneak peek at two new bookmark patterns I’ve recently completed that will be in the shop soon!

Because Time Lords have two hearts, there’s more love for Doctor Who! This will be available in four different styles.

My college friend said I should do something similar for Zelda, so I took him up on the challenge.🙂

Keep stitching and sharing your photos either on my Facebook page or by email at companioncrafts(at)gmail.com!

500 sales!

Tonight, I made my 500th sale on Etsy. Honestly, I never thought I would make it to 100, let alone 500. And I couldn’t have done it without all the geek crafters out there who bought my patterns in the past 18 months. Even people who just added my patterns to their favorites gave me encouragement to make more patterns and try new things.

And so, to say thanks, I’m offering a free pattern to you. My very first pattern I ever made, on graph paper, before I ever bought my pattern-making program. It was based on Wee Little StitchesFirefly pattern I had just finished. So I sat down and made my own Pixel People of the Tenth Doctor and his companions. (This was before WLS’ own Doctor Who patterns came out.)

I never put this one up for sale because I didn’t want to infringe on their idea. But I can offer the one I made for free. So enjoy. And thank you all so very, very much!

My Little Pony patterns

Tags

Finally, after months of working on them, I have four of the six My Little Pony patterns I plan to have in the shop. I honestly can’t say why these took so long to complete. They’re very simple patterns. No backstitching; no French knots. But they do utilize a lot of solid colors, and I find sometimes when I’m doing a lot of stitches of just one color, I can’t work very long without going stir crazy.

But that does not mean I’m not going to finish the last two ponies. I will be starting on Twilight Sparkle tonight. The Rarity pattern needs work before I begin on her, however, as I don’t believe her coloring is quite right.

But for now, please enjoy Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack and Pinkie Pie!

Two new patterns this week

I’ve added two new patterns to the shop this week! One fandom, one not so much, but both fun to make.

I Call It Vera

“Six men came to kill me one time. And the best of ’em carried this. It’s a Callahan full-bore auto-lock. Customized trigger, double cartridge thorough gauge. It is my very favorite gun. … I call it Vera.” Few things in the black can make Jayne Cobb turn into a softy. Vera is definitely one of them.

Social Network Butterfly

Let’s face it. Those of us who aren’t much of a social butterfly prefer to be social network butterflies. A cross stitch to show your love for all the ways we keep connected.

The first of the My Little Pony patterns should be up hopefully next week!

What I’ve been working on…

“My Little Pony, My Little Pony, ahh ahh ahh ahhhh….” Sing it with me now!

I’m a late convert to the new “My Little Pony” cartoon on The Hub network. When I first saw the new pony toys, I immediately hated them. They looked nothing like my beloved ponies of my childhood. But thanks to Tumblr, I couldn’t escape the new MLP phenomenon, especially the “Brony” sub-fandom. I had to find out what all the fuss was about.

Two episodes in and I was hooked. Cute, funny, great animation and storylines…. I totally get it now. And I knew, before long, I had to stitch them.

I’ve finished Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy so far, though I do not like the blue on Rainbow Dash. I will have to work on her a bit. At the moment, I’m in the middle of Applejack. All six “mane” ponies will eventually make their way into the shop. But for the moment, here’s a sneak peek!
